Working in Canada for students
Working in Canada for students
After graduation, you have a number of options ahead of you; such as: finding a job that is related to your major study, continuing your studies at a higher level, or going back to your home country and using your international documents to acquire experience. If you decide to stay in Canada you can use the Express Entry method to become a permanent resident of Canada.
Express Entry is a new plan offered by the government of Canada through which graduated international students can apply for and get Canada’s permanent residency within a relatively short period of time should they meet certain criteria and be recognized as an eligible candidate in the pool of candidates.
Work permission
As an international student, you’re only allowed to have a part-time job which means you can only work 20 hours per week. In order to work in Canada and find your favorite job, you need to have a great knowledge of English to communicate and the ability to do work. Students who find a job in their university or college do not need the Social Insurance Number (SIN), however, on the other hand, if they find a job our of the University or college they’ll need a SIN number.
Practicum and Co-op
There are two practical programs for international students, called practicum and co-op. These programs are part of the educational process based on the majors students choose to study. The practicum program is basically defined as working in an actual workplace without being paid. The only difference between the two co-op and practicum programs is that co-op students are paid while getting trained
